Alexander Technique with Sumi

In this intensive, dancers will have an opportunity to share any challenges they might be experiencing in their dancing…in relation to tension, pain, issues of balance.
We will explore easefully moving through space, changes in direction, and levels. and movement in stillness and stillness in movement The Alexander Technique offers the dancer a way to discover and find a deeper connection to an integrated, balanced, centered way of being. This can open a presence within oneself, to space, to other dancers and to the natural functioning of the body being.
Before she taught dance and Alexander technique and Zen meditation at Naropa, Sumi developed a workshop called Alexander technique for the conscious dancer which she taught at the Colorado Dance Festival. You will learn the principles and procedures of the Alexander technique through this lens.
Sumi will be giving subtle hands on experience of the work to each participant throughout intensive.

Testimonial from a past student:
Within 2 minutes, Sumi found the exact area of my body that was in pain and proceeded to make subtle contact that enabled it to untangle beautifully through my whole being. This was not a simple misalignment but connected to a deeper pattern of trauma in my system. She provided perfect support and also a recommendation for a flower essence that soothed the emotional dimension. I felt understood, and strengthened by her presence. Transformative experience I am still benefiting from weeks later.
